Remote Rhythm Lab is a commissioned project by the award-winning online radio station, Reform Radio, and is supported by Arts Council England and Jägermeister. Artwork by Glen Cutwerk.

Remote Rhythm Lab sees Jäger x Reform, #jagerreform, partnering four Manchester based artists with four artists from around the world, challenging them to explore virtual methods of collaborating and creating music.

It’s already evident post-lockdown businesses and individuals alike will be utilising the power of technology to overcome the challenges of returning to normality with the necessary safety precautions. The future of music production will inevitably be reshaped by this, and Jäger x Reform are eager to embrace technology as a means to connect international artists and enable more sustainable and less costly music production practices.

Artists involved in the project include, Chicago based composer, clarinettist, pianist and vocalist Angel Bat Dawid paired with vocalist and producer Berry Blacc who infuses hip-hop with jazz. Berlin based experimental club music producer and DJ Ani Klang, partnered with producer and DJ, Daniel Ruane - one of the most striking artists to emerge from the landscape of leftfield electronic music. Contours - whose sound explores the spaces, rhythms and textures that sit between House, Jazz, Afro, Latin, broken-beat and Hip Hop - will collaborate with KMRU, a field and sound artist, producer based in Nairobi renowned for his evocative electronic music. Italian native now Manchester based music producer Imaginary Part, who explores leftfield techno, ambient sound, IDM and broken beat, is partnered with PLASTICA, a producer, musician and DJ from Milan, whose futuristic electronic sound is informed by her musical background in piano and bass guitar.

Each of the artists involved have documented their experience, offering an insight into how music production can transcend borders. Split into a series of four, one episode will be released each week following the release on Reform Radio’s Facebook page, commencing Friday 26 th June.
